Education

Universities aiming for net zero must consider how food waste created from dining halls must be handled. University campuses have implemented food waste digesters as an onsite food waste digester to divert food waste from landfills, reduce carbon footprint, and meet sustainability goals.

Zero Waste Solutions for Higher Education

Onsite Waste Management and Technology

US college dining halls generate approximately 22 million lb of food waste per year.  Transporting the sheer volume of daily waste can add up.

The LFC biodigester is an onsite solution that processes food scraps and waste right in the dining hall kitchen through aerobic digestion, a natural process utilizing a special mix of microorganisms, water, and oxygen. The food waste is converted to water that can be safely discharged to sewer lines or filtered to enrich landscape for a circular economy.

Alignment With Education and Sustainability Goals

  • Provide students with academic and research opportunities in sustainability with free lifetime access to real time data analytics.
  • Divert organic waste from landfill
  • Reduce pre and post consumer dining hall waste
