Sustainability is the key to success for restaurants in Canada

The aroma of sizzling meats and lightly toasted herbs on melting cheese in conjunction with the sounds of sharp scrapes of knives against wooden boards filled the halls of the Enercare Centre in Toronto, Canada last week. Hundreds of chefs, servers, suppliers, and distributors flooded the exhibition halls in anticipation of the Restaurants Canada Show, an annual trade show for the foodservice industry.

Power Knot was excited to join countless exhibitors at the event as the only organic waste management solution. We were situated at at Booth #2506, close to other premiere equipment suppliers to the restaurant and food service industries.

This was the first time that Power Knot had participated in the event, and it was a resounding success. The food waste biodigester solutions that we demonstrated were the most innovative waste solutions on the exhibition floor, attracting much attention from attendees. The LFC biodigester offers a sustainable solution for managing food waste, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving operations, and saving money on the disposal of waste.

Sustainability was a key theme at the event, and it’s no surprise given the high customer demand for sustainable products and processes. One notable innovation was paper straws that wouldn’t get soggy even if they were submerged in liquids for over five hours. This is a small but significant example of the innovation and technology that is driving the movement towards sustainability.

For many attendees, the LFC biodigester was brand new technology which didn’t quite fit in with their concept of waste management. Food waste biodigesters are essential for kitchens where traditional waste management is costly and ineffective. Waste management costs are associated with the weight of waste. Fossil fuels are used to transport the waste to landfill or composting facilities. Unless these composting facilities are less than a mile away, it doesn’t make economical sense to burn fossil fuels just to transport waste when alternatives exist.

Power Knot’s solutions align perfectly with the movement towards sustainability, and its presence at Restaurants Canada demonstrated that the company is at the forefront of innovation for any organization that generates quantities of food waste. With the increasing focus on sustainability, it’s clear that companies like Power Knot are well-positioned to play a critical role in shaping the future of the food service industry.
