Presented by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), the award recognizes the resort’s success in diverting food waste from the landfill with the LFC biodigester.
A first for Sharjah
Coral Beach Resort Sharjah became the first hotel in the emirate to operate a biodigester on site. Instead of hauling food waste to landfill, where it decomposes and releases methane, the resort processes it on site, cutting emissions from decomposing waste and collection trucks. Using the LFC biodigester significantly reduces the resort’s carbon foot print, improves operations, enhances security, and saves money. These environmental sustainability benefits were recognised by the judges and resulted in the award.
How the LFC biodigester works
The LFC biodigester uses beneficial microorganisms to convert food waste into grey water within 24 hours, which then flows safely to the drain. Staff load food waste throughout the day, with no bagging or bin storage. Every unit connects to the LFC Cloud, giving the resort real-time data on the waste processed and its environmental impact.
