About You
We are seeking an enthusiastic person with a good personality to help expand our range of leading edge products. This is a position that you can “grow into,” taking on additional tasks over time. Although it is envisaged this person will be in the office most of the time, you may need to visit suppliers and customers. We will train you on how the products work, how we make them, and how we sell and support them.
This is a salaried (exempt) position. Your working hours will typically be 07:00 to 16:00.
Job Description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supporting existing products and developing new products. The work involves hands-on tasks to verify assemblies and operational aspects of the design, making changes as needed.
This list outlines the full range of tasks that may be required. However, Power Knot will consider applicants with the right aptitude, even if they do not have the full experience to accomplish all tasks:
- Responsible for the overall mechanical aspects of the product, including designing, manufacturing, and fabricating the machine. Schedule meetings to discuss the timeline and scope of existing design projects, address design issues and risks, and provide solutions.
- Conduct research, perform simulations, and execute calculations for mechanical design concepts. Perform calculations for geometric dimensions (e.g., drum volume, shaft diameter, paddle size, hopper size, inlet openings), overloading considerations, material selection, thermal analysis, and safety factors based on research data and applicable mechanical standards.
- Incorporate knowledge of geometry, metal fatigue analysis, tolerance analysis, heat transfer analysis, and fluid dynamics in machine design.
- Design sheet metal and solid modeling using Fusion 360 while meeting functionality and cost requirements related to machining or fabrication processes. Experience in designing complex sub-assemblies comprising various electro-mechanical components, potentially exceeding 300 parts.
- Create 2D production drawings for 3D models, including dimensions with specific tolerances, thread sizes, surface finish, material grades, datum features, and detailed section views. Apply knowledge of mechanical design standards, manufacturing processes, cost management, geometric dimensioning, and tolerance analysis.
- Utilize engineering principles to optimize structural design, dimensioning, tolerancing, and material selection.
- Oversee and analyze all design aspects of sheet metal, transmission, plumbing, and hydraulics. Review and approve assembly procedures prepared by the production engineer.
- Lead the mechanical engineering team in selecting materials, plumbing pumps, and components based on customer applications. Review and approve the BOM, drawings, and documentation before presenting to upper management for approval.
- Evaluate the company’s project pipeline with upper management to determine feasibility within current skill sets and resources. Forecast product potential and analyze development costs, including hiring, prototyping, engineering, and labor costs.
- Define team roles and responsibilities, ensuring accountability through clear tasks, timelines, and goals. Review, revise, and approve production engineer drawings and maintain an accessible database for stakeholders.
- Apply mechanical materials and failure analysis to calculate stresses and displacements under various loads to validate product performance and safety. Analyze cyclic load impact and structural life, generating inspection reports on failures.
- Work with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software engineers, and manufacturing managers, to evaluate the product framework, ensuring optimal wiring, assembly sequencing, and serviceability. Establish standardized processes and workflows across product lines.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum of four years of experience in sheet metal and MEP systems.
- Minimum of four years of experience creating 2D assembly drawings using 3D software.
- Minimum of four years of experience using GD&T and ASME standards for assembly drawings and instructions.
- Proficiency in Google Sheets and Google Docs.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Fusion 360.
- Experience in sheet metal design using Fusion 360 or SolidWorks.
- Strong understanding of engineering tolerances for part and assembly design.
- Strong focus on quality.

- Thorough knowledge of SI units (Power Knot does not use inches or pounds).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong mechanical and technical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Language Requirements
- Must be able to communicate and create design documents in English.
- Ability to read, write, and speak Chinese is regarded as beneficial.
Work Environment
- Must be able to spend the majority of the day working on a computer.

- Although primarily office-based, occasional work may be required in environments such as:
- Climbing ladders and working at heights of 1.5 meters or more.
- Working in an area with an open rear door and no air conditioning.
- Limited intermittent physical exertion, including lifting at least 15 kg, working on knees, climbing, or crawling.
- Exposure to noise, moving parts, dust, heat, rain, odors, chemicals, fumes, glues, and inks.
- Work around and with pallet jacks, stackers, hoists, and forklifts.
Experience Regarded as Beneficial
- Use of SolidWorks software.
- Experience in fluid dynamics.
